The goal of the Survey School Fellowship is to build capacity among family medicine scholars in research that uses survey methodology. The Fellowship includes opportunities for:
- Learning about survey research methodology & how to formulate research questions that are best answered using survey methodology
- Best practices in item design and building a questionnaire
- Deliberate practice in developing research questions & relevant survey items
- Developing and refining a research protocol
- Considerations for data collection, sampling, and ethics
- Mentorship to support Fellows in developing competence in survey methodology
By the end of the Fellowship, each Fellow will have created a research proposal that uses survey methodology, including a set of questionnaire items designed according to best practices. Fellows are also expected to submit their project for presentation at the NAPCRG conference at the end of the Fellowship.
- The Fellowship takes place over one full year, with two in-person educational sessions and three virtual education sessions. The in-person sessions are held in conjunction with the NAPCRG annual conference as pre-conference workshops, as follows:
- Session 1 at NAPCRG (November 20, 2026 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
- Session 2 virtual delivery – 60 minutes (February 2027)
- Session 3 virtual delivery – 90 minutes (May 2027)
- Session 4 virtual delivery – 90 minutes (September 2027)
- Session 5 at NAPCRG (November 13, 2027 in Vancouver, BC, Canada)
- Abbreviated CV (4 pages), highlighting education, scholarly/research activities, and teaching.
- Personal statement about why applicant wishes to take part in the Fellowship, and how the fellowship aligns with the applicant’s personal goals
- Letter of recommendation from the applicant’s supervisor or Department/Division Chair, including confirmation of protected time for the applicant.
- Confirmation of funding for the Fellowship fee. Fellows are also strongly encouraged to attend the NAPCRG and STFM conferences, although this is not required (can be included in the letter from supervisor/Chair).
