The Participatory Research in Primary Care Work Group promotes and supports collaborative research partnerships in primary care together with patients, communities and other stakeholder partners. What are Family Physicians for and will they be replaced by Artificial Intelligence?
Presented by Dr. Martin Roland
What does it mean to be a good family physician in the age of artificial intelligence? More than 30 years after Barbara Starfield identified the 4 Cs of primary care (First Contact, Coordination, Comprehensiveness, and Continuity) these principles remain central to family medicine. But as AI transforms how patients seek care and how physicians diagnose, document, treat, and coordinate care, what will the future role of the family physician look like?
This engaging presentation will explore how AI can enhance family medicine while examining the risks and challenges it brings. Most importantly, it will consider why the human family physician and Starfield’s 4 Cs remain essential to the care patients want and need.
